Rooted in Community
Good Karma Handmade Goods & Art is a small, heart-led business based out of Giant’s Lake in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia. It was started by Cairista MacIsaac, who makes handcrafted jewelry, body care products, and other small handmade items. She also promotes and sells her sister Patty MacIsaac’s artwork, along with Patty’s creative ventures such as wreath making and other handcrafted pieces.
Good Karma is built on the belief in strong, supportive communities. Both sisters are involved with ArtWorks East, a local non-profit supporting artists in the region. Cairista works as a marketing consultant for ArtWorks East, helping run their social media, website, and other projects, while Patty has volunteered as a board member, secretary, and has led and still leads workshops through ArtWorks East. Cairista also offers tarot readings with close to 15 years of experience, in person at her studio, at the Cast Away Cafe, and virtually. Together, they have dedicated time and energy to growing the arts and culture scene in Guysborough and supporting local talent.
Community care is at the heart of Good Karma. Cairista runs the Guysborough & Area Endometriosis Support Group (Healing with Endo 902), and recently donated 10% of summer gallery sales to a young woman in the group fundraising for out-of-country surgery. $2 from every mala bracelet sold is donated to the Guysborough Food Bank, and we host giveaways and support additional fundraisers and community events throughout the year.
Cairista is preparing her studio to eventually open to visitors on an appointment only basis, expected in late spring 2026. In the meantime, you can browse products on Good Karma’s social media pages and message to place an order. Local pickup is available, and shipping within Canada is offered at the customer’s expense.
Heart & Hands Behind Good Karma
Cairista MacIsaac is the founder and sole owner of Good Karma Handmade Goods & Art. She independently designs, creates, and manages every aspect of the business, from product development to community partnerships.
Based in rural Nova Scotia, her work is shaped by lived experience, resilience, and a strong connection to place. After navigating significant health challenges, she became committed to advocacy, mutual support, and building spaces where women feel heard and supported. What began as a personal creative outlet evolved into a small business grounded in intention, self-reliance, and community care.
In addition to running her studio and offering tarot readings in person and virtually, Cairista supports local artists and initiatives and periodically promotes her sister’s creative work. However, Good Karma is independently owned and operated by Cairista alone.
Her approach remains consistent: create thoughtfully, operate ethically, and contribute meaningfully to the community she calls home.
In Memory of Karma
The inspiration behind the business name
The name “Good Karma” was inspired not only by the idea of creating a business that gives back to the community, but also by my sweet girl, Karma. She was a rescue cat I adopted from CARMA in Antigonish and was always close by as I made jewelry and performed tarot readings. She was a special friend who I dearly miss.
In August 2024, Karma crossed the rainbow bridge, but her spirit lives on. She is remembered through Good Karma Handmade Goods & Art and continues to watch over the business in the logo, keeping a loving and watchful eye.
